It all depends on the church. I've had the exact same problem. If you aren't dressed the same you get 'funny looks'
Some are more formal than others. The one we go to is very informal. Some wear jeans and t-shirts, some ladies wear dresses and some men wear suits and ties.. and there is no judgement.
Others sadly are not that way.
Your best bet would be to speak first to someone that goes there and ask.
If you don't know anyone that goes, then play it safe and dress up for the first time, at least until you find out what people wear!

It truely depends on what you are going to church for... If you are going there for, some crazy, religous reasons then it shouldn't matter what you wear. God judges you on the decisions you make, reasons you made them, and reprecussions they have, and not for what you wear. However, if you are going to church to meet boys and impress all the stuck up rich fokes there then by all means wear you sunday best (this is where the name comes from). Which if you wear skinny black jeans would probably be a flower silk skirt and a lime green halter top.

Well it really depends on the church that you go too. I know that there are many churches out there that want you to wear what you feel comfortable in. Your best bet is to call the church and ask or someone that is going there to ask them what most are wearing.

You are entering the House of God and God deserves the best you have. How would you feel if He came to your house and showed you no respect?
Apply the Golden Rule - Do unto others as you would have done unto you.
Besides...didn't you learn any manners when you were growing up? Different situations call for different styles of dress. You wouldn't wear a bathing suit to a formal dress party and you wouldn't wear a formal gown for a day at the beach. Use a bit of common sense.

wear what you are comfortable in, Jesus said he will take you as you are , if people say anything about it find another church. Jesus did not come into the earth to save the righteous but the sinner.

Depends on what church! If you find a true church however, it won't matter. The people won't judge you. Or at least that's the goal we all aim for.

You go to church for yourself and God. I my opinion it doesn't matter what you wear. As long as your not wearing something obviously offensive, I don't think it should matter.

Modesty is what the bible dictates. Obviously some have taken it to the extremes.
