I have a silly problem. My daughter received a durabrand dvd player for Christmas. When we try to operate it, it always says "no disc" or "no valid disc." We have tried mutiple dvds, but none have worked so far. What are we doing wrong?

Unfortunately, it isn't silly, that's a problem with Durabrand. I had one and had to get rid of it for the same reason. Take it back to the store, pay a little more and get a better one. Wal-Mart used to carry, them but because of complaints, no longer handles them in Oklahoma. I don't know about other states.

Check the connections. Electronics equipment is pretty picky. If everything is hooked up correctly check the owners manual which came with the unit. That usually has trouble shooting advice. It will also have a number for tech support.
I presume the unit is new and not second hand. If you still have trouble with it take it back to the store(hope you have the receipt)and exchange it. Check on the box; if it has the GoodHousekeeping seal it is also covered by a limited warranty by that magazine as they do not allow their seal to be used on products they haven't tested and okayed. If it does have the Good Houskeeping seal(which is an oval with the words GoodHousekeeping inside)contact the magazine. They will tell you what you need to do.

Sometimes, inside the Disc area, there is a piece of plastic that protects the lens. You have to remove that for it to work.

Also, buy a name brand one, like philips or sony. It will cost you a bit more, but it will be worth it, since it will not fall apart after 30 days.
