Sales tax, insurance, registration, and new plates will depend on what state you live in and what type of car you buy.

It varies by state.
We have no sales tax in Montana, so it's not a big deal.
In states with sales tax, some charge on the purchase price, some charge on the difference (assuming you trade in).
Whatever your tax rate is plus $50-100 for plates & registration in most states.
