My throat feels very tight - like someone's choking me. It's hard to talk, sing, and swallow. I constantly get food stuck in my throat. I had a barium swallow and it revealed nothing. I currently take nexium to lessen the acid but it does nothing for my throat.

When a person has GERD (you take Nexium for it), the muscular sphincter between your throat (pharynx) and esophagus tightens to prevent the reflux from reaching your airway. Food (solids) gets stuck in the lowest part of the pharynx (in structures called the pyriform sinuses) because the sphincter has trouble relaxing.
I suggest you alternate solids and liquids when you eat so the liquids flush out the pyriform sinuses. Hold your chin tucked when you swallow, as this will widen your pharynx.
You may want to ask your doctor if it would be appropriate to increase the dosage of the Nexium. The less reflux, the easier it is for the upper esophageal sphincter to open.
