they make a urethane called spar varnish ...works well.
the thing to remember about urethanes is to STIR GENTLY , don't shake. you'll never get rid of the bubbles , and it'll never dry.

You would want a water seal product.
If you want to see the natural grain then go with a clear or there are sealers that come in color or tints. These will give your wood table a great level of protection.

I would suggest a Marine Varnish, available at you local Boating and Marine store. Do about 3 coats with a bristle brush not a nylon brush, sanding with 220 grit paper between coats

i would probably use a polyurethane coating. they are available in cans or spray paint, either work well, at any local hardware store. i know ACE hardware has a great one. just stay away from lynn seed oil or it leaves it with sort of a tacky finish that will be noticable.

Spray the whole thing with clear coat finish like they use on cars. You may need to go to a auto body shop to get it done though.

try useing lynn seed oil, you brush it on and it is a water sealant for wood you can put as much on as you want, we use it on our dog kennels to keep the wood from worping and rotting.
