I did bring my cat to the vet today and he couldn't find anything wrong with him. He said that his bladder was not full. It was emptied out. And he had no signs of kidney stones, no temperature, no loss of weight or appetite. He said that being I had a new kitten in the house using the same litter box, he probably doesn't want to urinate there now, so he's finding another place in the house to go. Well, I had to bring my kitten back to the shelter anyway because she was pouncing on him everytime he used the litter box or whenever he tried to eat. And when she tried to play with him, she was too rough. She would bite into his neck so hard that he'd be screeching. So, sad to say, I had to bring her back. She was too young. He couldn't handle being around her. Anyway, the vet said that that's probably the reason he doesn't want to urinate in the litter box. But I went home and checked the whole house and I can't find any place where he's urinated. Anyway, thanks for all your advice.

Does he go outside any? That may be where he went. If not, keep your nose open, you may pick up on it sooner or later. (He might also have gone when the kitten was asleep.)

First of all I would replace the litter box that you currently have, residual smells from the new cat may linger and your cat might not want to use the box. You may also want to consider changing the location of the litter box, because if your new cat was pouncing on him when he tried to use it he will associate that location with fear and negativity and will not want to use it.

Also, is your cat strictly indoor? If your cat goes outside its likely that he is merely doing his business outdoors, as they prefer it to a litterbox anyway.

If this still does not resolve the problem, I urge you to watch your cat VERY closely. My cat had a similar issue and the problem he has was actually bladder crystals that block the urethra. These crystals eventually turn into stones that can block the cat from urinating at all, and is very painful for the cat. If the crystals have not turned into stones yet its hard to detect that anything is physically wrong. My cat ended up having surgery to remove the stones, and has been put on a low ash urinary health diet so that they dont come back.

If you continue to see no improvement, or notice that your cat attemps to use the litter pan but is unable to urinate - do bring your cat back to the vet asap to check for bladder stones.

Hope this helps.

I am so glad your cat is OK. I am sorry if we sent you off to the emergency vet for no cause. You did not mention the kitten though and I do think many would have picked up on that.

Kitten will share a litterbox and an older cat already in the home should not be expected to do so. So wash the box in soap and water and put new litter in it for your guy.

Wash out the box that the young kitten was using, so that he can use that box again. Clean it thoroughly.

Im so sorry to hear that you had to take her back! But you did a good thing by attempting to look after her.

Good luck with your kitty!

(The whole thing about having to have 1 more box that you have cat is stupid, it only applys for some cats. I have 2 kittens and they share a litter box.)

It may be hard to find out what he was using to potty on. House plants, a Christmas tree, a pile of clothes... some place where you may not notice. Clean that litter box out really good so that there is no smell left from the other cat and he should start using it again.. just make sure you show him where it is after it has been cleaned.

How many litter boxes to you have around the house? You should always have 1 more box than you have cats. Like if you have 4 cats, you should have 5 litter boxes.

Hope he starts going.

HI
If he doesn't go in his liter box wash it out with vinegar and water you may have to buy a new one but he probably has found some where else to go. I have 2 seperate l;iter boxes for my cats they are funny like that.
