Everyone should give you what KIND of names they like for dogs.
You didn't say what kind or size of dog it is though, so that makes it harder to guess. But I have always liked old "retired" feminine names that girls aren't named anymore. Names like
Lydia, Melba, Wilma, Martha, Evelyn, Sheila, Pearl, Sophie or Doris. Those are for funny dogs. You can also like places for names, like Dallas, Paris, Denver, Dixie etc. etc. Or you can pick names the dog reminds you of already like Corky, Pudge, Sugar, Baby etc. etc. What I always do (and I've had a million dogs because I LOVE them) is give it a week at least and a name just seems to emerge from getting to know her. Good Luck!! (I envy you for having a new dog)

I've named my dogs Amber Rose, Coco Puff (my current dog). I tend to look at the personality of the dog and/or any physical charactistics. My best friend's dogs which are all female is Amber, Topaz, and Onyx.

Also you might like to name your dog after a favorite fictional character, like some from a favorite series of books:

Elanor
Goldilocks
Polgara
Ce'Nedra
Xera
Xena (warrior princess *grin*)
