See link. It gives 2 meanings. Managing resources on a product development project, and selecting shares to invest in within a portfolio of shares (either for a mutual fund or a private individual).
If you're talking about shares, bear in mind that some modern portfolio managent theories are nonsense, such as having shares in 10 different companies and selling some of the ones that consistantly increase a lot in value because they are making the portfolio 'unbalanced' (starting to become too big a proportion of your assets). Thats like a soccer team selling its best players for being consistantly good goal-scorers.
