Please Google search on Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN).
Cervical dysplasia appears to arise from a chronic infection of the cervix by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). This is the same virus that causes the common wart. There are approximately 100 strains of HPV. Thirteen of these strains appear to cause cervical dysplasia and lead to the development of cervical cancer.
While the cause is unknown, a number of risk factors have been identified. Most cases occur in women aged 25 to 35.
Other risk factors include:
* Multiple sexual partners
* Starting sexual activity before age 18
* Having children before age 16
* DES (diethylstilboestrol) exposure
* Having had sexually transmitted diseases, especially HPV (genital warts) or HIV infection
