First of all if your church does not baptize when a person hears, beleives, repents and understands that he or she must be baptized, then you attend a church that does not beleive baptism is essential for salvation, so no if you do not want to attend, you should not have to.
If a church followed the bible example of baptism, then they would baptize people whenever they were ready and would not make tham wait.
I have baptized dozens of people, I always had a key to the building so I often made trips and baptized people in the wee hours of the morning, yes even at 4:00AM. Most churches that understand baptism to be necessary will offer the oppurrtunity to be baptized at each and every service.
The only time a baptism should be held outside in a lake in winter is when no other means is available and the person being baptized does not want to wait, just like the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts chapter 8. Then there is most always methods of warming water up in a tub or device that will allow for a baptism. .

Why does he want to do it on a cold day? That old stuff about "Christians must seek suffering?" I thot that was left behind in the dark ages.
Well, I'd look into WHY you wanted to participate? Are you motivated by "what will they think if I don't" then that's a bad reason. Don't go. If you truely feel it's the right place for you, then go.

This isn't really a question that other people should be answering for you. I think you already know what your answer is, but just want confirmation to back it up. If you want to be baptized, then do it. If you don't, then don't. But do it for the right reasons not because of the weather.

That doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe he's trying to test your dedication or something. You'll have to follow your heart on this one.
