The Catholic Church has basically the same percentage of pedophiles as any other organization that works with children, yet some people come up with lies such as:
"Why are there more Catholic priest pedophiles than Protestant ministers and Jewish rabbis, combined?"
Where do these lies come from? Are they malicious, or just stupid rumors spread by uneducated people?

It's a joke, made up to see the priests as "other."
Pedophiles are the newest group that it is okay in our culture to hate. There is even some support for the death penalty for pedophiles. When the priests, who are celibate and therefore weird to most people, are seen as abusing their pastoral privilege, this makes people anxious, and many people make jokes about the things that make them uncomfortable.
I'm not excusing the jokes, just explaining the situation as I see it.

I am a fallen away Catholic. I cannot think of being a member of the Church ever again. I don't know how many priests there are that did this to small boys and I don't care. One boy is too many. I feel as tho my Church has been taken from me by the priests that I believed in as representing God.
Being celibate does not cause this type of behavior. It does not make anyone a pedophile.
You have to ignore all the garbage about these kind of things. There is nothing you can do to change it. There are bad and mean people in this world we live in. I just try to stay away from them.

It is a little bit of each thing you mentioned. Lately or not so lately there has been alot of publicity about it which compounds the rumors. The celibacy of the priesthood also makes people think this because some people think men can not live without sex. Also any profession where people work with children whether they are males or females leads some people to think this. The priesthood is a shelter for men who might lean this direction unfortunately for the good wholesome healthy priest and priest potentials.
The fact is there are people who simply want to bring Christianity down the tubes, whatever that might take! These people not educated. They are calculative, dangerous, demonic and to be feared. There is a movement to destroy the church.

I believe the Media is the new source for all information. So pedophile priest get a lot of attention. I understand your point but I don't know if I would try to defend it. The body of Christ as a whole has been bruised by the actions of the rouge priest however few it may be. These are children. One is to many.

I haven't seen too many people making up lies about the percentage of pedophile priests in the Catholic church. What I have seen is people condemning a church that is so domineering that it protected those who were, rather than admit that it was anything less than perfect and so doing, allowed the abuse to continue for decades.

The same reason why Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to believe there are over 23,000 hidden pedophiles within their Society. The sickest part about it is the fact that they don't turn these nut cases into the police, and if anyone in the congregation comes forward to do that they will be disfellowshiped. Sick, eh?

It seems that the news talks more about Catholic Priest pedophiles then any other religion. I don't care if there's one priest, minister, or, rabbi touching a child, that makes it ONE too many. ~~~~

I think it probably comes from a jealousy of the Roman Catholic Church. This country has a real problem with pedophilia and singling out one organization does not solve the problem.

A better question is why do Catholics have to confess their 'dirty little secrets' to another 'man'
could you imagine being the priest and having to listen every weekend about all that malarkey that 'we good Christians' do and then confess?
It's no wonder why they are the way they are.
They can not get married, and again have to listen to lewd acts of confession.
I don't have the facts, don't pretend to know anything, but i don know if you are constantly around certain people that they and the things that they do 'rub off' on you.
ask anyone who has a 'problem' with porn, I am sure they will tell you it started out wtih a little curiosity, and then they had to do it all the time.
I just hope it all ends, children should NEVER be harmed, especially by those they are brought up to trust.

It could be because more and more Catholics are coming forward about the abuse they suffered as children.
I'm not a Catholic but a Jewish/Christian. Personally I believe we're dealing with malicious lies spread by uneducated people.
It happens far to often in other faiths as well. It's just not being reported right now.
