I don't really know anything about digital cameras, any suggestions? I want one that takes nice clear and crisp pics. Thanks.

First of all, think about your budget- how much you are willing to spend. Also think of what type of digital camera do you want to buy- compact or SLR? From your question, you don't seem to be looking for SLR. So I'd suggest you try Sony or Canon. I think they make good quality compact cameras. I personally have FujiFilm FinePix. It's nice too. I bought it because I wanted something cheaper with lot of useful features.

The important thing to remember is don't just think of popular brands. You must think of what features they contain. For instance, know the difference between digital and optical zoom. Never buy a camera that shows you a very high digital zoom. Optical zoom is more important than digital zoom. That's just one tip. Also look for higher megapixels. You can google for more tips on buying digital cameras. Do a bit of research yourself.

In the world of compact digital cameras, Canon rules. In the world of DSLR camera, Nikon rules. You do not state how much you are willing to spend or what features you must have. Do you want the best digital camera made in the "35 mm format" class? Get a Nikon D3X - they retail at $8,000 without a lens. Want the best in a compact digital camera and don't mind it being big for its size? Get a Canon Powershot G10. Want a "micro 4/3's" camera? Panasonic or Olympus makes those. If you really want a good answer to this question you need to provide more information. If you are on a budget just get an inexpensive Canon - they make great little cameras.

All of the major brands have their fans, and I have no doubt that they are all good cameras. The only camera available at the moment that I would stay away from is the Fuji S9500. I bought one and the photos are just not sharp and clear.

Take your time looking, they are getting better and cheaper as time goes by.

Optical zoom is the most important thing, get the most you can for your money.

Digital zoom is a complete waste of time, do not consider this as a factor when buying a camera. Once you have bought a camera, turn digital zoom off.

Get the most megapixels you can for your money.

As a very rough rule of thumb when comparing your final choices in camera, take the number of megapixels and multiply that by the amount of optical zoom. Buy the camera with the highest number.

Try to avoid a camera that uses two 'AA' batteries (except perhaps the Kodaks that can use the CR3 Lithium ion Battery Pack). Get a camera that either uses four, or one with its own dedicated Lithium Ion battery pack. (If you want to keep it for a long time, check the price and availability of replacement batteries. perhaps ebay?)

Nikon and Canon are two of the best brands for digital cameras of the compact size. Get eaither with a bear minimum of 5-6 megapixels.

Canon! I have a 10D and I love it. Kind of complicated though. I have a small digital that I got on Costco.com that takes great pictures. I will always stick with Canon!!!!!

Rember, it isn't just the camera. The lens makes a big difference.

first outline your target:
always in a hurry?
get a camera with AA batteries found everywhere instead of mobile like batteries
don't get too expensive one, u won't use all its options
get a brand u know where to fix it
most important, try it before u buy it
