There are MANY causes of anemia, not just low Iron. Vitamin B 12 or folate deficiencies, underactive thyroid, kidney disease, certain types of cancers, genetic disorders, chronic illnesses like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, or stomach ulcers are only SOME of the other causes. For a lot of the causes of anemia, iron can in fact be DANGEROUS if given in high amounts. You need to talk to your doctor and make sure all other causes are fully investigated. In the interim, a daily multivitamin will provide enough B12 and folate and other important vitamins.

Skip the spam and yes they do give iron shots for anemia. But eating iron rich foods such as liver and taking iron supplements are also good. But one has full blown anemia, the doctor is the best person to decide what is best for the person.
