What is the difference bt. a civil union and a domestic partnership?

A civil union is marriage in front of a magistrate or judge (as opposed to a priest or reverend or rabbi), a domestic partnership is simply a couple living together without legal papers.

I would say the difference is as follows: Civil Union -a marriage legalized by the State. Domestic Partnership -just living together without the legal formalities of marriage

I think a domestic partnership is just where two people live together, and a civil union is a recognized partnership.

I think that if a couple lives together for x amount of years, they have a civil union. I think...

A domestic partnership would be like a family owned business where all members are partial owners while a civil union would be almost exactly like a marriage.
