my laguna (r reg) has developed a fault.
the key fob now wont open the doors, you have to use the lock. the red light comes on, on the key when pressed.
yesterday the car started fine, but today it turns over but won't fire. i've checked the spark plugs and they are not sparking.
could this be an immobiliser fault or something else?
any ideas much appreciated.

I own an "03" laguna but I'm no mechanic. All I could suggest is that you try a new battery in the key card.

Hi there, from what you have said, the key button unlocks the cdl which in turn de-activates the immobiliser, In the event of key failure you should be able to go in through the drivers door, when you turn the key in the lock a small switch is activated at the rear of the lock and it is that part which lets the car know its ok to start, however if you think about it, If you are not in the habit of using the door lock the switch behind it can and will go faulty through lack of use. The engine cranking and non start is a clear indication of typical renault style immobiliser fault. Main dealer only for possible key retune but probable new key button req'd.
There is a way of bypassing the immobiliser and this mod is available freely over the net and costs around £85 + postage. I will edit this once I find out details.
Cheers
Hope this helps.

Hi
I'd try new batteries in the key fob firstly...
If that don't work you can get a code from Renault that will bypass the key fob... This does involve you going to Renault with your v5 and 2 forms of id..You may find that they are slow to admit that the code even exists... but be persistent I know for a fact they have them...

Ive been looking around on the net myself over the last few days as I've been thinking of getting a laguna dynamique, upon reading a lot of reviews on this car I've heard nothing but these type of faults time and time again and I WONT be buying one now! i don't know how to fix it I'm sorry i cant help but I've heard that they need repairing regularly and are very unreliable so my strong advice to u is to get it fixed then sell it ASAP!

i had a laguna with same problem,, remove the distributor cap and check the cap for oil as the cam shaft seal leaks into the cap, from the outside there are no visible signs but take the cap of to eliminate this possibility, its only 2 screws, if it is this clean it out and spray with wd40 and it will last a few months at a time

mechanicly the key shuld have opened your door. The fact that it did not, and triped a red worning light, says you have an elaborate anti theft system,
Yes if your key is not being correctly read by the system, It may even kill engine spark, shut down the fuel pump, even set off the horn.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to the fuel pressure regulator and or a bad fuel regulator.Could also be a fuel filter that is about to clog.
