He said "This generation will not pass, till all these things be fulfilled." Matthew 24:34

Referring to the following predictions:
The sun and moon will darken, the stars will fall from the sky, the power of the heavens will be shaken, the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, the tribes of the earth will mourn, they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven. and he will send his angels to gather his elect from the four winds.
Matthew 24:29-34

He said "The son of Man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels...There will be some standing here which shall not taste of death till they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." Matthew 16:27,28 and Luke 9:27

Why did he say it would happen in that generation, and that some of his listeners would still be alive?

Many many generations have come and gone, the predictions remain unfulfilled.

I have asked this. they will redefine generation and also tell you it was the transfiguration. basically they will admit that nothing in the bible can be taken literally, except those passages which suit the reader.

but best of luck!

EDIT:
KJELSTAD rocks !!

the transfiguration took place 6 (or 8) days later! it CANNOT be the kingdom of god mentioned! jesus says "SOME" not "ALL" of you will be alive. also, it is pointedly clear that he was referring to the generation of the people to whom he spoke. not all of mankind forever. (put that phrase in, "all of mankind forever," in place of the word "generation" and see what you get. it takes away any point for jesus to be pointing it out. )

I've read what Jesus meant by, "There will be some standing here which shall not taste of death till they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." Matthew 16:27,28 and Luke 9:27" was
when Jesus overcame death and rose from the dead. This was the beginning of his kingdom!

Which is a different passage than the end times of, "he sun and moon will darken, the stars will fall from the sky, the power of the heavens will be shaken, the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, the tribes of the earth will mourn, they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven. and he will send his angels to gather his elect from the four winds."

t For LDS religion this is easy to answer they are translated beings or ones who have never tasted of death. They are still here on the earth . Jesus was the first resurrected not the only one.
Moses and Elias appeared to Jesus on the mount of transfiguration to Jesus and 3 disciples.Matthew 17.3 and Mark 9:4
John talking to Peter If I will that he tarry what is it to you?.Read John 21:19 through 24 Jesus told Peter that he would tarry until he comes thus translated being. Its spelled out in KJV
Translated beings are ones who have never tasted death.
It also talks in Hebrews 13:2 be not forgetful to entertain strangers: Forthereby some have have entertained angels (Translated beings) unawares.
So yep there are 2,000 year old people on the earth today. They just don't go showing them self to everyone.

Translated beings People are different, then mount of transformation which is a place .

Hello, Okay in Matthew 16:27-28 IF you read the very next verses and take that verse "IN CONTEXT" He Jesus went up in a mountian and the DID see a for-taste of Jesus Glory when He was transfigured before them, and in Matthew 24 and 25 these are last day events of earth that WE are NOW living in and Jesus The Second member of The Godhead said this as to warn everyone that your end, the end can come at any time. There are folks that in the last days which are now which may very well see Jesus come in The Clouds [angels] of Heaven. learn more free bible lessons, www.itiswritten.com God bless. email me also wgr88@yahoo.com

The Zechariah prophecies are particularly poignant and suggest events like a nuclear holocaust with its dead and dying. Most of the "end of the world" people seem to ignore the Old Testament prophecies that concern the events leading up to the "Great and Dreadful Day of the Lord" which will be more destructive and horrible than the days of the Bubonic Plague that wiped out a third of the population of Europe. One of the things that I've repeatedly said (and gotten TDs for) is that we shouldn't worry about the end of the world, but spend our time here on earth living our religion, which includes charity (pure love) toward all and not the vitriolic hatred that often includes condemnation of others to hell for their beliefs.

Jesus said that after talking about things to come and the fig tree.
The fig tree was about the Jews returning to their home land.

After saying those things, He said, 'this generation will not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

You probably would not accept this, but this is a prediction of the rapture. But it will not happen until the sun and moon are darked and the stars will fall form the sky.

If they have accepted Christ, they have victory over death.
Their bodies will be put in the grave, but their spirits will not.

His reference to this generation is conditional of all the other things said in Matthew 24.

This apparently didn't happen. I imagine that if there were any 2,000 years old people about, we would know about it.

There are no reports of angels flitting about that I have heard about.

The only possible conclusions are that (1) either Jesus did not say this, or (2) he did, and he was wrong.

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were written long after Jesus died. Imagine what you would say if you had to write a biography about Malcolm X based only on what you have heard (no fair using the Internet).

The generation that will see His coming could be this generation and if so, He is saying that the generation would not end until all of what He said would come to pass. I am not sure what you are wanting answered here. There is a generation that His coming will take place in. The ones who live in that generation will see all He said will happen.

He said some of His followers would be alive that no one would know the time,His ways are higher than our ways so we believe by faith, the substance of things hoped for but unseen we are the seed of Abraham(some of His listeners) and actually dont know the generation because we do have to believe by faith..........God Bless

'Which "generation" is Jesus talking about??????????????'

Looks like the one he was speaking to "There will be some standing here " , sounds like false prophecies to me.

I just do not understand the excuses. "You don't understand because you didn't take a 12 year course on it, blah blah blah..."
