I recieved a columbia house collection notice for DVDs I bought when I was 17. They keep mailing me bills claiming I didn't fulfill a contract that you can't even sign when you are 17. They say they will report me to a national consumer reporting service which sounds like BS to me but how do I get them off my back if I wasn't 18 to begin with?

haha you don't know WHAT you're talking about. that's not perjury. perjury is lying under oath in the court of law. 17 year olds sign contracts all the time and they are thrown out in court

Why don't you just be an adult and PAY THE BILL?

Maybe you can't sign a legally binding contract at 17, but you can commit the crime of perjury at 17 by knowingly signing a contract that says you must be 18 to participate in an offer. You knew what you were doing, even if you didn't realize it was a stupid deal. Fess up, accept responsibility for your behavior, pay the cost, move on.

Let me get this straight.

1) You signed a contract (that you knew you couldn't sign)
2) You received the merchandise
3) You're complaining because they want the money?

contact them and let them know you were only 17 when y0u sign the contract and there for you were not legal to sign for a contract . Let them know that if there want to report you oh well .THis wont do much but put a little dent in your credit which is easy to get over anyway . I had a similar thing happen with thenm but my mom called them and explained it and they wiped my account clean so try it

There is not a thing Columbia House can do to you. They never asked for your social security # when you signed up with them. Without your social security # they can not report you to any credit bureau.

Just pay the bill and get it over with...and yes, you're correct, you weren't committing perjury, you were committing fraud.
