US intelligence helped Saddam’s Ba`ath Party seize power for the first time in 1963. Evidence suggests that Saddam was on the CIA payroll as early as 1959, when he participated in a failed assassination attempt against Iraqi strongman Abd al-Karim Qassem. In the 1980s, the US and Britain backed Saddam in the war against Iran, giving Iraq arms, money, satellite intelligence, and even chemical & bio-weapon precursors. As many as 90 US military advisors supported Iraqi forces and helped pick targets for Iraqi air and missile attacks

justice, logic, democracy .... these things dont exist in international matters. if you are powerful what you are saying is right and everyone tries to be your buddy. i think the situation was similar with in nations before the advent of democracy and impartial laws. may be humanity is not mature enough to replicate those in the international level.

The US trained and supported most of its future enemies. Continues to do so.

The only gain by hanging hussein is that it sets a good precedent for the disposition of people who seize power and abuse it. I.e., it's a good start.

Then, suddenly Saddam changed his tune, and refers the US as the "great western devil", kills his own people (the kurds) then invades Kuwait. That was when he made his mistake.

that is the way life works. if a neighbor boy does things that you like, you help him. if he changes his ways, you dont help him anymore, maybe even join up with other friends to go against him, maybe even beat him up. what makes you think that a country should behave any different then you would?
