I really don't like salt. Even though it doesn't even touch the ice cream it still grosses me out. Are there any recipes for home made ice cream that don't require salt or rock salt?

The salt lowers the temperature of the ice making it "colder" and means your liquid will turn to ice cream faster. Since you don't want to make a new investment if the salt is really that bothersome to you, you can make it without the salt. Just be prepared to crank longer!

I have used regular table salt on ice to make ice cream in the home ice cream freezer many times! It works great! I think it actually works better than rock salt, sometimes. It probably costs more for the table salt, though, since the rock salt is only a few dollars for a large bag, while the table salt comes in a cardboard cannister that weighs only about 26 ounces for nearly $1 or maybe more.

Yeah, just get an electric ice cream freezer with a bowl that you put in your freezer, and use any recipe, ignoring the salt.

Traditional ice cream maker machines always require salt in the ice to keep the temperature low enough, but the new freezable electric ones don't, plus they're easier to clean.
