You're kidding, right? If they're dirty why not put the dishwasher soap in and turn it on? Lock to the right means dishes are washing or clean, lock to the left means they're dirty and more dishes can be added. I sure hope this helps, if not get a refrigerator magnet and put it on the front of the dishwasher, face up empty, upside down dirty and someone should turn the washer on, I sure hope you don't live alone,if so buy paper plates

Why can't you just open the door and look? You can tell if the dishes are clean or dirty, unless you are one of those people that cleans the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Otherwise, do the magnet thing. Maybe a happy face that if turned one way it's happy(clean) and the other way sad(dirty). But what usually happens is someone forgets to turn the magnet and someone else thinks there's a clean load in there but it's really dirty and so on and so on. That's why I said to just open the door and look. It's alot easier.

Just look for (or make) a magnet that says "clean" on one side and "dirty" on the other. My grandmother has one of a duck that she sticks to the front of the dishwasher, it is so useful. As far as marking goes I can't come up with anything, Sorry....the frosting gel was a good idea though

I used to have the same problem, and there's a simple solution. Empty the dishwasher as soon as it's done running. Then, if there are dishes inside, they're dirty.

The way I tell my dirty dishes from my clean dishes in my dishwasher is - if the dishwasher door is not shut and latch the dishes are dirty - if the dishwasher door is shut than the dishes are clean!@~

Cut a letter "C" and a Letter "D" out of plastic lids. When you wash a load make sure the "C" is in the silverware holder. When you empty the clean dishes change for the "D". Make sure all know of your system and do the same. Good Luck!

You might try a dry erase marker or a Visa Vis marker (this is a marker used for transparancies on an overhead projector). Both can be found at teacher suppy and office supply stores.

well you can put a piece of tape or something on it when it hasn't been run. and after you run it take it off indicating the dishes inside are clean. marking up your dishwasher isn't a great idea though.
