I've been chugging diet soda for quite a while, can somebody tell me if there are any bad sides to diet soda?

Everything good has a con, seems to unreasonable that soda can have no sugar and have no downside.

Diet sodas are just as acidic as regular sodas. Even though they do not contain sugar they are still just as corrosive to your teeth.

Well your right and here is the downside...Aspartame is the sugar substitute in most diet drinks. This has been linked to many ill effects in humans. I'm not sure how old you are but when I was younger there was something called saccharine its chemical compound derived from coal tar C7 H5 NO3 S. They put it in everything from TAB and FRESCA (old school diet drinks) to a sugar substitute for coffee. Unfortunately about 10 years after people started eating this stuff they found out it caused cancer (big time) and was linked to brain tumour and birth defects. That's when they developed aspartame they say it's safe to eat ... but that's what they said about saccharine !!! As far as I'm concerned humans have been consuming sugars since the day we started eating 10 000 or more years ago and it hasn't killed anyone (that didn't take it in excess) yet... I know some people out there are thinking "What about Diabetes?". But if you ask any doctor "Is diabetes caused by eating too much sugar" ... everyone will say NO!!!! Sure you can get fat by eating too much sugar, the trick is "Eat to live ... not Live to Eat !!!

Everything is permissible in moderation,. this is the key. Anyone can drink regular cokes if it is in moderation and this is the problem. Sugar is very addictive and as any addiction causes you to want more and more.
According to the latest research the substitute sugars in the diet drinks are just as addictive as the regular sugars, but then again the question would be-can you drink diet drinks in moderation? Most people answer no again, because the sub sugars are again, addictive.
If you can drink them in moderation go for it, if you can't you should consider switching to a nice bottled water which is better for you anyway. Every bottled water tastes diff so find one you like and drink it,. your body will thank you! Did you know that you're already dehydrated by the time you feel thirsty?

I usually don't drink any kind of soda, but when I do, it's always diet.

There have been studies that show that the sugar substitutes that they use in some sodas are very harmful to your digestive system. It can basically act as embalming fluid and erode your organs.

Anything in excess is never a good idea though.

I too love my Cola, way too much!

I can tell you there are many negatives to Cola. First, a Dentist I know, my dentist does this thing with children in the area, where he shows you what happens to a tooth that is placed in Cola. He places a tooth, usually one, one of the children had fall out or one he had to pull at the office. You put that tooth in a can of Cola and in twelve to twenty-four hours, the tooth is completely desolved, that is how caustic all Cola's are, all soft drinks.

As for Caffiene, caffiene stresses the heart. It is a drug, like it or not. When we drink it sparingly it can give us energy, but when we drink it daily, our bodies begin to expect it just in order to maintain the same level of functioning as far as energy is concerned. Diet Soda's have artificial sweetners, whcih sadly have been proven to cause cancers in mice and there is more and more proof that they do the same thing in people. Look up each sweetner on the net. Type in a search like "ASPARTAME+Cancer" See what comes up, you'll get an eye opening experience.

Cola's and Diet drinks in general have been related to many gastrointestinal problems as well.

If you are over weight, sadly, even diet Cola's tend to cause weight to be harder to take off. I'm not on this one if they know why.

Blood pressure is affected by all Cola's, diet or otherwise, raising blood pressure due to the large amounts of sodium in them.

I've tried to limit myself, by saying this is all the soda I will allow myself to drink in a month. It causes me to space out my drinks of all carbinated drinks. At one time I use to drink 3 two liter drinks each day, WAY--WAY--TO MUCH!

I heard someone say once and it kind of makes sense, if your body doesn't need it to be healthy, why do you use so much of it. This can go for anything our bodies do not need to be healthy.

There was one study I heard about from a Nurse that showed that people who drank even one soft drink a day tended to have more health issues then those who didn't. Makes you think, as to how true it is, I can't be sure.

all of the chemicals that make is taste the same as the original.
aspartame and many other fake sugars in the diet sodas are horrible. you might as well drink the original. even though it has more calories and fat...it's much better for you and it tastes better.

It's not good for the boday. All you have to do is to simply drink 8-12 glasses of water a day, no to carbonated drinks, sweets, chocolates, spicy, salty and fatty food. Just eat fruits and vegetables. Try it. I lose weight from 75kilos to 62kilos in 3 months.
Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!!!!!!
