a priority for government spending? Let's face it, we need a huge facelift, our equipment is terribly outdated.

Personally, I've been encouraged to see Harper's government actually spending some money in the military budget. Is it enough?

I'd be really interested in hearing from someone in the military who's done a tour ... how has the equipment you had helped or hindered?

For those Yanks who aren't aware :) we are actually very active in Afghanistan right now... they call it peacekeeping but in actual fact, it's war. My question is geared to the equipment and how people feel about an increase in military spending.

The most pressing need within the Canadian military should be to please the US military. LOL. But over all, if your government can get the funding, updated equipment will do nothing but benefit your troops. And in response to your extra details, I express my thanks for the Canadian assistance with peacekeeping efforts in Afghanistan, and believe that a Canadian life lost is just as valuable as an American life lost.

We need modern equipment, and raises for the front line men and women. That always makes a career more appealing. I am not a fan of Stephen Harper or his party and did not vote for them, but I have to admit he has done a fantastic job.

I guess you have been in too much London Fog there in England AK. We are currently serving under NATO in Afghanistan. We were in Rwanda, Romeo D'Alaire is single handedly responsible for saving thousands of lives in Rwanda, when no other western country would take up the cause, including the Brits and the US and as for Iraq, we are not GWB's puppet and don't follow him around like a lost puppy like Tony Blair has.

There actually are some of us to your south who know what you're doing and appreciate a job well done. History has left us in the role of superpower, and we generally feel we have to wear the mantle, but there is a little envy. We'd like to be able to choose not to play the superpower and be more like you, but we really feel the world can't afford for us to do so.
