When my son was seven, he made a public promise to Read the Actual Bible for one hour every day. (I tried to talk him out of it.) For two weeks he grimly set a timer and did it (he was that determined), and then I said, "We need to talk to God about this."
Then I realized, I could show him where the stories are... Vavoom! No more timer! The longest he spent wrapped up in the Book was 2 1/2 hours! (reading "Chronicles.")
Negative repercussions: He got hard to beat in Bible games. He began gently questioning some of his parents' lifestyle inconsistencies. (Hmmm I guess kids do that eventually, anyway.)
Positive consequences: He became very wise, and very easy to reason with, and very sweet and generous in playing with his friends.

Let the child continue to read and then ask him or her if they needed any help figuring things out!

I taught my children to read the Bible so I guess I would ask them if they enjoy reading it

Thank God your child or whomever is living in love, apparently God has pulled that child to Him and I think I would listen to what they had to say and study with them

Talk with him to make sure he understands he is reading middle eastern tales and legends as he might run into schizoid delusional people that would try to make him believe that the fictional characters really existed.
One is never too careful in the early prevention of delusional mental disorder.

I would tell them that they are doing a great thing and if they have any questions to ask and we can talk about it.
you ask this question like they would be doing a bad thing by reading the Bible.. well maybe you need to do it too.

Ask if they have any questions. If they have questions I'm not able to answer, I'd have them look up their answers in numerous books.
