Does he get outside to hunt? If not then that's the problem. Cats aren't teddy bears, they're preditors, they need to hunt, it's what they were made for. A couple of hundred years of domestication is not enough to spoil millions of years of evolved instict.

Spanish Enchantre is right. Some domesticated cats still have the "stalking" syndrome in them, and that's all they are doing. Stalking and pouncing. All cats do that in one form or another. Have you noticed two domesticated cats "fighting" on the floor. They are playing and practicing their fighting techniques that has been inbred into their genes from day one.

Contrary to what you think, this feline adores you, he wants attention. Saying that you will 'knock him out' he can hear that. Be nice. Absolutely do not put your hands on him- If you do, I'll be coming to get you!

He's just playing with you. Be nice. He's practicing his hunting skills by stalking anything that moves.
