I have this hunch that a guy friend of mine likes me. he is in the marines and leaving for Iraq on January 12 2007.

He just got out a relationship and is doing fine but he also likes my best friend. and i dont care about him any more than just a friend but i feel like im in a bad situation. i know that my best friend will say no to him if he asks her but i dont want him to leave on a bad not with us and i dont want him thinking that we care any less about him. i also dont want him to think we wont miss him or that he doesnt have anything to come home to relationship wise.

What should i say to him?

the thing is he ia amazing. he is kind, sensitive, sweet, funny. everything a girl can want but i just dont feel the way he does.

I think that if you are totally sure that u do not have the same feelings for him, that u should repeat exactly what u said at the end of your question - tell him how wonderful he is, but you do not feel the same way and that he deserves someone who can give those feelings back.
My prays are with him. :)

If you had been dating, I would have said to marry him. But he just broke up and he likes your best friend also. Talk to him and see if he does have any feelings for you and if he does, tell him maybe you can hook up when he comes back. He is traveling to the otherside of the world. You won't see him at all and the fact that yuo haven't been dating is sort of a bad thing.

RUN the post office and buy him some stamps and plenty of envelops as a going away present
If you can buy him a small teddy bear or something like that and spray it with your favorite scent, that would be nice too. put them in a small box and instruct him not to open it til he gets there.
Inside of the box write him a note and tell him that you will pray for his safe return and that you hope that he will keep in touch.
Hug him for all of us on this board too.
I am so proud of anyone who will do what he is doing for OUR freedom!

Why not tell him how much you care about him as a friend and offer to write to him in Iraq? If he chooses to ask out your friend that's up to him. Everyone who asks someone out risks a refusal, it probably won't devastate him. Just knowing he has good friends and letters to look forward to will probably be enough.

Try to see if you guys can spend some time together (on a date), talking , laughing and enjoying the moment. Tell him that you will miss him a lot.
