Don't be so tough on yourself. Just think!
Selling arms is legitimate trading carried out worldwide by many countries.
It only became appalling when Saddam made the mistake of using them to subjugate his own subjects who were opposing him.
At the time he was being equipped he was a vital ally against Iran and the incident against the Kurds was long after the west had stopped providing him with arms.
The thread of your question suggests you are feeling sick and this is most likely because you have swallowed much of the misinformation espoused by the peacenicks and do nothing brigades when Kuwait was invaded.

If that makes you sick, then every tough political decision since the beginning of time must make you sick.
Your way of thinking leads to this: Gee look at that guy rape that woman. He's really going at her, but I can't stop him because I didn't stop him yesterday. That would be hypocrisy and surely hypocrisy is the worst crime in the world.
Did it every occur to you that people make hard gray-space decisions every day to secure your peace tranquility and right to moan and mock those who stay up at night suffering these decisions?

Your feelings of hypocrisy come from ignorance of the situation. The US didn't want the human rights violations, the US was in conflict with Iran. The enemy of my enemy is my friend; or something to the effect. Blame Iran for the deaths, if is wasn't for them, we wouldn't be involved.

"Sigh" so it starts. World has moved on since then my friend. Sure lots of mistakes were made. We in a different century now. USA and UK realise that. Things change, and I am not having a pop at you. Look at Russia and us now. He was a different person then, greed and corruption took over him.

We didn't only sell him weapons.
America provided full support, assisted in Iraq's financing, provided military intelligence such as satellite images to help Saddam target civillians and supplied the weapons.
America was in full collusion with Saddam during his most murderous campaigns. He was really a US puppet.
in addition, since 2003, the US have commited far more crimes and murders than Saddam ever did.
American's are totally ignorant of US collusion in Saddam's crimes.
