You have asked two separate questions.
Was Saddam a real muslim? Yes he was a real muslim.
Is he in paradise now? No. He is suffering eternal punishment. Not because of what he did during his life. Because of what he did NOT do during his life. By being a muslim he did NOT accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Sadly, therefore, he is in hell.

I am sure he will be sent to hell for the innocent people he killed.
A very bad example of how a muslim should not live would be Saddam. For tarnishing the image of Islam i am sure. Hell awaits his arrival.

If he ask for forgiveness with all sincerity from within, God would know if it was or not.
And if he did make it, still he would have to learn many things that he most likely haven't learned on earth, the oracles of God.
Real Muslim, that I don't know.
