I would say it is. I just got back from treating a patient. The thing is, he woke up at 5 AM with pain and had not a hint of pain before that. If you have an abscess that has been bothering you for a week or so and you just decided that you plain old can't take it any longer, I'd say it is a case of poor planning and not an emergency. If you call your dentist, tell him that it just started hurting this morning, even if it's a lie.

I hate to be the one to have to bring this up but, as only one person has voiced, 1. Did this dog go into the kennel healthy? Were there health issues with this dog? 2. Who has the body and who is doing the necropsy? If this dog was healthy, someone other than the kennel should be taking the body to a vet for necropsy. There may be a lawsuit pending over this and the necropsy needs to be performed immediately after death so the cause can be determined. If the body is not handled properly the reasons for death may be lost. Which is why I ask who is doing the necropsy. I am truly sorry for your loss, but having seen this happen several times in practice - I have to let you know that someone needs to be in contact with the kennel and have the necropsy done by someone other than the kennel's vet. I can tell you from professional experience that you should call your father and tell him. Give him the choice whether he wants to cut the holiday short or not. He will want to know. That's why he gave an emergency contact number.

Ive just phoned my emergency dental service and got an appointment with a hospital dentist tomorrow morning, because I am in agony with a cavity/nerve pain, and theres no way I can last 2 more days and 3 nights of pain (all night long) til tuesday. If you are in agony, tell them you cant last, my emergency service seemed to have quite a few appointment times available. Good luck.

It depends on what u percieve as EMERGENCY.If you consider emergency as a LIFE-THREATENING or DEBILITATING CONDITION than obvioulsy dental abscess is not an emergency.
but otherwise dental abscess is a dental disease which has pain, discomfort and infection associated. with it. basically its a condition which is caused in advance to pulpitis(a condition known as infection of pulp, the root part of tooth)and that infection is basically caused by advanced stage of CARIES(or cavity formation by bacteria)...
DENTAL ABSCESS can lead to further complication such as granuloma formation or cyst formation and infection could spread.but having said that these things take a long time to occur so u could go on with dental abscess for 1-2 years or even more before changes start to take place...
disadvantages of not treating dental abscess apart from pain is obvioulsy the spread of infection, swelling and further damage of the tooth...a stage could take place where the only option left is to remove the tooth...
its best for ur tooth and due to the pain factor to treat dental abscess soon. having said that dont worry regarding the emergency thing.it wont actually destroy ur lif or something like that...
so just go to the dentist,,the sooner the better and get ur dental abscess treated, hopefully it would fade away and u wil go on with ur life....best of luck

Yes, yes, yes! Call your dentist's emergency number right now. If you don't have one, go to the emergency room. An abscess is an infection, it could get worse, spread, cause all kinds of problems. If you're in that much pain, you need immediate relief.

You can go to the local nhs walk in centre if you cannot get in at the dentist, or there is always an emergency dentist open.Y ou will need a course of anti biotics before any work can be done on the tooth.

Get on to the emergency dentists. They'll give you some antibiotics to clear up the abscess. Then see your ordinary dentist when you've finished the antibiotics.

It can be...you wont get help from a doctor as its dental...been there suffered, this time last year...two paracetamol and two ibruprofen help ease the pain...will also help when you get the antibiotics...however if you get a good dentist, the one I went to cut into the abscess to release the poison...he actually used my case at a seminar...by cutting it he released the pain...then had antibiotics to help then the cheap cure... GOOD LUCK

A warm salt water rinse might be soothing.
Then call your dentist. She or he should have an answering service. Please let the service know that you are not looking for any drug other than an antibiotic! The answering service should call/page your dentist and let her or him know that it is real and it is urgent. You should be able to see your dentist or the dentist on call this weekend. They may send you to the ER and that will work just as well! so Good luck, I really feel for you! - dd

My brother had this and had to go to the emergency room vs his dentist once. They gave him antibiotics to keep the infection from spreading any worse, and maybe some Lortabs for pain until he could get to his dentist.
