You can get a disease if you touch them and don't wash your hands afterwards. Animals/pets are dirty.

Turtles have the same thing as raw chicken(salmanilla), so was your hands after playing with one. Let the animals shell dry off every two days.

Turtles as other reptiles, carry salmonilla poisoning, as a defense mechanism against other predetors. They are fine for house pets as long as you wash your hands after handling them, and make sure children do too as children are forgetful sometimes. (Dont kiss it or anything LOL) wash anything that it touches too.

Small "painted" and "box" turtles have been known to carry salmonella.
