It was talked about in the sunday newspapers but I have seen nothing since. It is supposed to be the new VW. I really want one but so not know where to start.

Pokey is a slang word meaning either jail (He's in the pokey for theft) or slow.

I have seen pokey added as an adjective in many many VW reviews, especially about the beetle, since it's so slow and under powered. Perhaps that is what you saw.

My new car is a VW beetle, very pokey as it's basically a two-litre, fuel-injected Golf with a beetle on the outside

Personally I think VW should hire an engineer named Hokey, let's say William A. Hokey just for fun, and have his design a new model called the pokey. Can you see it? The all new Hokey-Pokey. The ads would be "THAT'S what it's all about!"
