I am doing a report on scandinavian immigrants to WASHINGTON STATE I need reasons why they came to WA the USA would be easy but WA presisely is a lot harder!

There were a couple of terrific studies of migration, including one in the 1930s that involved researching old newspapers in Europe -- many of these newspaper archives were lost in WW II so the book is a precious study. Try, e.g. Mark Wyman and James H. Kettner; and genealogic records, including those of the Mormon Church.

We Norwegians all came to South Dakota and Minnesota. Never heard of us aiming further West. That must be a recent thing.

They likely chose Washington because of the climate similarity to Norway.

i know that most scandinavian immigrants (my famliy)came to Montana for free land. maybe eastern WA had a similar situation.
