I was trying to check the VIN # to see if I could find out which model this xterra is but I have had no luck. I had decoded the VIN but it doesn't say the model. The SUV doesn't have on it anywhere what model it is either. Any motor heads out there that can help 5N1=made in USA; E=VE30DE, GA16DE, or VG33E; D2=Exterra; 8=Xterra etc.

Use these methods if you do not see a label in chrome or some sort of plastic glued to the rear door or bumper area:

-Call a Nissan garage and give them the VIN. Tell them it came from their garage.
-Check a carfax report (which you should do anyway when you purchase a used vehicle)
-Look on the inside of the driver side door for the label that would tell you this.

If you still can't find out. I would then check the engine, write down the size and compare it to the models sold at that year. Nissan likes to stick one engine in 15 different models so this may not help but it is at least better than nothing if the 3 methods I suggest above do not find it for you. I would be sceptical of buying anything without a carfax report also. Verify with carfax that the proper trailing model delimination is verified, but it should as there is a HUGE difference with many cars regarding price and performance with those trailing model delimination notations (IE: XE, SE, LE etc etc).

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

See what the features of the Xterra are and if theres no SE emblem on the car it means its a lower model. Or go to ur nearest Nissan Dealer to ID the car through a brochure
