Webmd.com offers alot of great medical advice but lots of tings can cause it. Primarily excessive caffeine consumption (I have them because of this, and smoking) stress...anxiety, cold medicines. IF your young it's rare it would be anything serious. Worst case situation you let your Primary care giver know and they will set you up with a cardio doctor band you may have to wear a small monitor for 24 hours (at home) where you would press a button every time you feel a palpitation and the next day you bring it in and a specialist reads it looks at where you mark the irregularities and goes from there

There can be 100s of causes for heart palpitations. It could be anxiety, or medicines, or other physiologic/psychological causes. Maybe you should have a check up with your doctor to be sure everything physical is OK, then if that all checks out, time to find out if their is something going on in your head.

I've had heart palpitations since I was a child (5 or 6). Doctors couldn't tell me why I was having them. But they did tell me that I had a heart murmur that would fix itself as I get older. But when I got older and started drinking soda, docs told me it was the caffeine. Now I do believe that because when I go crazy on the coffee, I notice my heart acts funky again.

I had those, i was recommended to have a paracetomol once a day. After a few months it got better. But i dont know the cause. The Drs seem to thik it was muscle strain or lack of exercise.

Stress can bring on palpitations also hormones if you are female.
