There's a specific black coloring gel made by Wilson that you can pick up in any store that has a decent baking supply section. Barring that, you can mix all four colors in the "standard" food coloring pack to make black. This is obviously easier if you start with chocolate frosting instead of white frosting. The dump-all-colors-together method can give a the frosting a little bit of bitterness, so use as little as you can get by with if you can't find the Wilson's black gel.

The best way I know how to is to just make vanilla (white) frosting first, (either home-made or the pre-made stuff will do) then get some Wilton black icing concentrated paste. It adds no flavor, just color.(a lot of color! it actually turns you mouth black!) You can find this stuff usually at wal mart in the craft section. Hope this helps.

if you mix all the colors together (less yellow - more green, blue, red) - you should get black

you can also buy black food coloring at cooking shops

Dark chocolate, use it pure and melted for ultimate effect.

Purple and blue. Lots of it. Maybe brown, but idk if they make brown food coloring. Careful- black icing stains teeth and lips.
