No.. and I'll tell you and Richard Dawkins almighty why... because there will still be jerks born every day. But without religion, what will happen is those who arent jerks will either become jerks just to survive amongst the jerks or just kill themselves because without belief there is something better than this... THIS is all their is.

What I would like to see, are those who claim that religion makes the world a bad place, get up off their butts then and start making it better. Create an atheist charity that feeds the hungry and clothes the poor.... gives free medical care for everyone who needs it. Put your money where your mouth is.

Why do you assume that people would have common morals, or even want common morals, in a world without religion to back them up?

I freely admit that if I knew I could do whatever I wanted without any lasting consequences I would act very differently than how I act now.

Tough question, I think that for a society to function it cant just accept only one way of thought-doing so would be dangerous. Religion will gradually breakdown when all societies prosper with technology and science (it already has significantly in christianity), but until then the world still needs the delusion of religion.

who's morals?
religion in itself is not the answer
the answer is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ
Absolute truth - the Right Moral Compass is found in the bible. It is foolishness to think that a thing such as common morals can be found among common mortals.

Without God, there wouldn't be any morals. God is the author of what is right or wrong. You know when you do something wrong, your conscience bothers you? Consciences didn't evolve, they were put there by the One Who made you.

If you want an idea what the world would be like without God in it, read some Bible passages about Hell, God won't be there.

I don't know that it is a 'waste of time', but if everyone could just treat everyone else with dignity and acceptance, than it wouldn't matter what brand of spirituality someone was. For the majority of humans, religion is a needed structure to their spiritual practice and worship. It shouldn't matter what faith they profess, if any, as long as everyone treats everyone else morally correctly...but it does, and probably always will. Unfortunately.

And the person who set the "common morals" would be? None of us have common morals we are all sinners with EVIL desires in our hearts.
The Bible has some standards set - they are called the 10 Commandments, they seem like the best morals around!

Turn to Jesus, gaurentee your seat in heaven!

Yes it would. Religion has killed more people and started most wars. Being spiritual has nothing to do with religion. Religion is man made and power hungry.

We are each on different levels of understanding. Religion are one of these levels and will be needed until all the levels have risen. Each religion holds a truth and part of a very big puzzle. It is up to us to digest each piece of the puzzle until we fully understand it. What is peace to one is often a nightmare of another.
