I bathe my dog as supposed to, but yet he still itches. Especially at the base end of his tail. Its also more like chewing. And its bad enough to cause sores.

Dogs can itch for lots of reasons, fleas, mites, allergies or just dry skin. My dog has allergies really bad and I have tried everything. but I started treated him with holistic meds and foods and found this absolutely amazing ant itch spray. You will have to try a all natural pet store in your area but it is called Richards Organics Incredible Skin Spray. This stuff works instantly and it has natural antibiotic properties so it also prevents infection. I have tried everything but by far this stuff works the best.
You can also try baking soda and water. Mix 1-2 heaping teaspoons of baking soda with 8 oz of water in a spray bottle. It works pretty well and seems to soothe the skin.

Well are you feeding him a good food? He might even have a food allergy. One of my dogs had one so I had to switch his food. Start out by making sure he's eating a good food (Science Diet, Beniful, and most other Purina foods are really poor. Instead try Innova, Eagle Pack, Chicken Soup, Natural Balance...holistic foods)
How often are you bathing him and with what kind of shampoo? Try oatmeal and tea tree. This has helped one of my dogs (who suffered from mange and just has dry skin now) This should be no more than a month (unless vet or breeder says not to)
Does he have fleas or any other bug on him? My dogs have been attacked by black ants that couldn't be found until my dogs were bathed.

It is one of 2 things:
1. fleas
or
2. allergies
or
both.
When you bathe the dog do you see fleas in the tub? I assume you bathe your dog in the tub.
If it is not fleas, it could be your dog food. Food allergies in dogs is becoming common. If it is food allergies, then you will have to buy your pets food at the pet store and not the grocer. It will be a trial and error kind of thing.

you can add a cap full of vegetable oil to his food. it replenishes the oils in the skin. the house is drier in winter and this affects their skin like it does ours. also, vet can give you a powder called neo-predel. it works great and has an antihistimane in it. you shouldn't bath your dog too often either. bath only if neccesary.

this could be from the shampoo your using or the dogs diet, check the food you buy and if there is corn by products in it, then get something without any corn products whatsoever. feed him a can of tuna in oil once a week, this will help put oil back into his skin and improve his coat. as for the shampoo, you should be able to find some type of non-allergenic shampoo at Petco or some other pet shop/supply store. if non of this works, get him to the vet for a checkup and/or meds to help

You might want to start with a hypoallergenic shampoo and conditioner. I dont know if you are already doing this, but if not start.
It may be his diet. He may be allergic to the food you are feeding him. Try switching to a lamb and rice meal. A lot of dogs are allergic to beef and chicken.
He may be allergic to grass. Some dogs are allergic to grass surprisingly enough.
You can also buy a product to put on those spots (also called Hot Spots). It numbs it so it wont itch and he wont want to chew on it. I cant remember the name of it, but they sell it at petco.

Use oatmeal based shompoo. Also every time that you feed your dog hard dog food put about 1 tablespoon of veg. oil over it. It should be better in about 2 weeks.

You can give him an oatmeal bath. Walmart and fine department stores carry special shampoo for this kind of thing. You can also get prescription strenght formulas from your vet. This is where I would start. Alot of dogs itch for different reasons.

change the food to a no grain food. most common reason for dogs itchy skin is food. canidae, solid gold, innova, and california natural are a few good ones
