I switched over to using TWO eyes (for depth perception and to correct eye dominance issues) and after getting used to it had nothing but success. Give me your own experiences on this. Someone on here claims you don't have to uise both eyes to shoot good, but I think that is garbage.

One thing I forgot to mention was that I went shooting with a marine (served 1976-1980) and he taught me to shoot a scope with BOTH eyes open. He received sniper training.

I have been shooting for over 25 years. Trained for my job, was taught to use both eyes, strong eye and also weak eye. Same goes for strong hand, weak hand. At first there was a noticeable difference but now just a slight one. I still am more comfortable with strong eye, strong hand.

Sorry, but its not garbage. I shoot one eye for everything except some pistols, and scoped firearms that I can aim with both eyes well.

I shoot competitively (shotgun [trap] and rifle) and have all the trophies, patches, and belt buckles I need to prove you can shoot with one eye and succeed. I consistently and always have shot 450+ out of 500 in rifle courses, and usually shoot a 94 or 95 out of 100 in trap (I'm in B class with a 92 avg)...aside from my bad days chasing wind blown targets.

Its a personal matter... I can't shoot most iron sights with two eyes, or correctly point a shotgun at a target moving right to left (I'm right eye dominant) with two eyes. I see both down the gun and the side of it, and its distracting and I loose track of the sights - or in the shotgun's case, the end of the barrel.

i am left eye dominant, but right handed. i do alot of shooting and hunting. when shooting with a scope, i always keep both eyes open, because it is harder for me to see through it with one. however with a pistol, i can shoot a golf ball at 75 feet with one eye closed.

I certainly have this issue too, you get used to it. I basically stored on taking photos ultimate exceeded like regularly occurring, and now I infrequently additionally be conscious it. I nonetheless close my left eye while i take advantage of a scope, or a pink dot, yet numerous people do this besides. So yeah, my advice is discover the taking photos place that feels maximum mushy for you, and basically save taking photos! i think of it is a form of issues the place prepare makes suited.

I have shot my entire life with one eye. Always have and always will. I can also out shoot everyone I have met to date. Think it is garbage, go ahead. I will continue to put deer and squirrels on the table.

Try this. Lay a milk jug on it's side and shoot at the lid. Take two shots. End with one hole in the lid and two holes leaving the bottom of the jug. That is one eye for you.

I've always been taught
Rifle one eye closed
Shotgun both open
And I always hit what I'm shooting at
(well not always those bluebills move pretty fast on the fly!)

I have used a pistol in the past with perfect bullseyes. The pistol's barrell should become an extension of the shooters hand, the pistol barrell has now become your index fingertip. Simply aim the barrell the same way you point your index finger.
Go ahead with no gun visually aim you index fingertip at something.

world's best shooters...use scopes-one eye....
snipers-scopes-one eye-

sight shooters use both eyes-no problems.

eye dominance is a crack....
left or right hand-pistol/rifle-shotgun-- I can shoot-one eye-two eye don't matter..

two handed- pistols-auto's or revolvers can shoot both same time--alternate eyes-both eyes..

target shooting is about practice....

skeet/trap is same thing...
