I read a newspaper article today about a man in tears because he was so happy that Saddam Hussein had been hanged. "I've been praying for this all my life." He said.
He PRAYED for someone to die. What the hell? He cried tears of joy when it happened. What is wrong with this man? What is wrong with the people of the Middle East? Why are so many of them so obsessed with bringing MORE death into the world.
Pray for justice, sure. Pray for peace. Pray for an end to the sectarian violence that has ripped the cradle of civilization and faith apart since World War One. But don't pray for people to be killed. Isn't the real message of the Quaran one of peace and tolerance?
How do we get that message back?

Note, I'm not defending Saddam. He deserved to be brought to justice for his crimes. But is it right to want so badly for another person to die. Can that lead anywhere but more killing. That's my point. Somewhere in the world right now walks the man who killed my brother. But I don't wish him dead. That kind of hate poisons the mind.

The middle eastern culture is not quite the same as here in the west - "an eye for an eye," (or even '100 eye's for an eye') is still a part of their thinking and their legal system.
You can't expect to measure everything that happens there with the yard sticks of your own culture. Look at the broader picture and you may see that Arabian thinking isn't as different form the west as it may appear to first glances. Executions are carried out quite commonly in some US states and, believe me, there is always someone in observance of an execution who has prayed for the death of the condemned death-row inmate and who may shed a few tears of joy when the ordeal is ended. People are only people after all.

"What is wrong with the people of the Middle East? Why are so many of them so obsessed with bringing MORE death into the world."
you mean like invading Iraq and killing hundreds and thousands in an terrorist operation called Shock and Awe after killing nearly a million (mainly children) through sanctions? Or threatening every country that doesnt follow it
Honestly the blindnees of some brainwashed Americans and inability to look in the mirror at their own nations crimes is comical
Sifting
"They do not believe in Jesus ~ that's what's wrong with these people! America is a Christian nation... and what do you know! There's no civil war or people bombing each other!"
Yes Christians never fight each other- WW1 and WWII were fought by Hindus and Muslims
And American are too busy bombing the rest of the world (21 nations bombed since WWII) to bomb themseleves
The incredible thing is before the US invasion of Iraq there WAS NO CIVIL WAR or people bombing each other - only when the Amercians came and disbanded the police and army did Iraq fall into its chaos - If America didnt have a police force what would happen in your streets? (look at Katrina, LA riots)

I can only hope one day you end up in a country where your life may be forfeit at the whim of a ruler. Maybe then you will pray for someones death. I do not think that politically his death was a wise thing with so many people still being in the city - I think that bursts of violence will be outrageous. However, I do think that death is the only way to eliminate certain problems in life. His death stopped the mutilation and torture of thousands of others. Back to my hope for you - I can only wish it will be soon, so that maybe you will open your eyes and realize the world doesn't work in the way of peace.

Peace and tollerance, yes, in the same way as the bible, no. The bible has the "turn the other cheek" methodology, nice, but slightly idealistic and capable of ultimately leading to one's own distruction if no one takes pitty on you (They got a bit lucky with Constantine). On the other hand, the Quran teaches peace and tollerance, but also a general "don't take **** from people" idealogy, if you're being persecuted, they're taught not to endure it and maintain their position quietly, but to fight against those that persecute them to procure ultimate peace. As such, one may wish to fight back against someone who, you know, poisons an entire village or something of the like....

You said "Pray for justice, sure." Maybe this man was crying tears of joy for the justice provided him. Now if his expression was sadistic happiness like a team winning a game...then that is morbid.

He prayed for peace!!! that would have included the death of sadam, until the US decided its oil reserve was low. Then again, im sure that his death even back then, would have just sparked a civil war anyway.
