I had head lice when I was younger. I have always had really long hair, they were awful. It took a while to get completely rid of them because some of the store treatments just were not strong enough or something. Finally did, here's how.
*Bag up ANY and ALL stuffed animals, pillows, etc into a garbage bag and seal the bag. Keep it in a closet or somewhere for about a week or so. Lice get into material things and wait til someone comes along. It takes about a week or so to starve them to death.
*Get some of the RID spray and spray down any other material things (couch, bed, rug, etc.) Do it again after a few days to kill any new bugs.
*My mom got so desperate after using RID and all of those other products that she finally took a simple bottle of rubbing Alcohol, had me lean over the tub with a towel over my eyes and face so it wouldn't get into my eyes, and she poured the bottle over my head slowly making sure to get my whole head. It stung. She then put a shower cap over my hair and wrapped the towel around it so it would soak up any alcohol that run from under the cap. She had me keep it like that for about 10-15 minutes. Then, we rinsed my hair out. After that, she used one of those RID combs the get the nits (eggs) out. A few days later, we repeated for any POSSIBLE newly hatched bugs. That was the end of my Lice infestation.
She rechecked me every few days, just in case we missed eggs or something. By this time, we were paranoid about them because we had both gone through it. (I had given her lice, so she did all the treatments also).
* which brings up something else, Check everyone's head that lives with you and treat them.
* Remember, having lice does not mean you are dirty. Lice are more attracted to clean hair than dirty hair because dirty hair is oily. They can hang on to clean hair better.
* The mayonnaise mentioned is generally to put into the hair to untangled the hair while using the Nit (egg) comb. I have never heard of it actually killing the bugs.
Remind your child to not use anyone else's hair brush. That is a very easy way for them to spread.
You may want to tell her daycare or people that have children that she has been around so they may check their children for lice. That way, she is less likely to be reinfested.
Lice do not crawl, they jump. At one time I think I read something that said that lice could jump a few feet!
Good luck! I understand hat you are going through.

Have you tried mayonnaise? And even when treated properly, you have to recheck in six days or so, when the eggs will be maturing, although of course you will have hopefully picked those out.
Be careful not to use multiple treatments of RID or any of those toxic treatments. She's very young, and they will hurt her more than the lice. Keep trying you'll get rid of them eventually.
When you're treating your whole house, I assume you're washing everything in hot water and drying it on the highest setting. Iron things that can't be dried. I have also used my iron on my mattresses and upholstered furniture. Then, of course, there are the rugs.

Your daughter might have been reinfected by someone she is in contact with, possibly at her school or daycare. You'll need to keep her hair short and treat her scalp, and replace her pillows if you haven't done so already. Your pharmacist or hairdresser can recommend a special shampoo. You might also have to resort to the old-fashioned method of picking the eggs out of her hair by hand. Good luck.
