In Texas, a child must be in a booster seat until the age of 5. A booster seat is different from a car seat. A car seat has a harness that straps the child to the car seat with the seat belt strapping the car seat into your vehicle. A booster seat is slightly different. A child sits in the booster seat, and using the vehicles seat belt, is strapped into the vehicle along with the booster seat. A booster seat ensures that the seat belt is placed correctly across the child's body. Correct seat belt placement, helps ensure the safety of the child in the event of a car accident. Be careful when traveling to another state... other states near you have stricter laws. Some states require children be in a booster seat until the age of 8

It depends more on weight than age. Your booster seat may or may not be OK for your four year old. How much does he/she weigh? I saw a video on YouTube the other day about a 3 yr. old who was over 40 lbs. and in a booster seat but was thrown from the car on impact and died instantly. The older sister was fine in the same booster seat. The mom has now replaced the booster seat for her daughter with a 5-pt. harness system. She is 6 yrs. old. They make these carseats to accommodate up to 100 lbs. I think these are the safest.

Texas child passenger safety laws require children younger than five years of age and less than 36 inches in height to ride in an approved car seat or booster seat. Additionally, Texas law states that during the operation of the vehicle, the child must be properly secured in a child passenger safety car seat system according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the safety seat system. Children under age 17 must be buckled into the vehicle with a seat belt. This law changed on Sept. 1, 2005. The new law increased the age requirement for child safety seats from four to five.

You need to get a booster seat for your son.
They are so easy to put in. Just set the seat in there and buckle him in there.
He needs to be in a booster seat until he is 4 feet 9 inches!
They sell booster seats with pretty neat pattens, camolauge, cars things like that.
Remember The seat belt will not fit your child properly unless he is in a booster seat.

The maximum secure place for a newborn under 12, many times required by utilising regulation, is interior the lower back seat. A typical rule of thumb is that little ones could be in a booster till their knees bend over the edge of the seat while sitting precise. that's advisable to apply a seat belt adjust for some time thereafter. my daughter is 5 and my son is two and that they are in boosters(my son is conscious the thank you to unbuckle it which sucks) My different son is 3 months and he's sixteen pounds or greater lol yet hes just about too enormous for his automobile seat yet he nevertheless has to stand backwards til one years old.

I don't know about Texas, but I think California is up to 6 and 60 pounds now. A child must be 6 years old and heavier than 60 pounds before they can ride w/o a child seat.

PLEASE keep him in a seat/ booster till around 5 or 6 yrs of age (70-100 pounds). 40 pounds is too light to be secured with a seat belt. I had two 4 yr old kids in my class in two different accidents die in 35 mph crashes wearing seat belts. they just did not hold them securely. booster seats would have saved their lives.

Yes, use the car seat. We should never be in such a hurry that we do not have time to secure the safety of our child. It is also called "child endangerment" if get stopped and the child is not in that seat.
