I would like to build a 14' x 22' additon on to my home and I would like to have a licenced local contractor to show me how ( so I can learn ) but also, I can only afford to buy the materials needed. I cannot afford the labor. I would be willing to work and to help ( evenings and weekends ) I want to build this addition for my wife but I cannot afford what some of the local contractors charge. Any suggestions ? I am not afraid of hard work ( I currently work two jobs ), but I am trying to see if I can find a honest - possibly retired - contractor who has experience building homes / renovations. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. I live in Shamokin Dam, PA

I do this quite a bit but I'm in LA! Often people hire me on as a 'consultant' and I will inspect their work, help them in filling out forms for building permits, and offer suggestions on changes -there will be changes.

The main thing that you should be concerned with is money. You're planning on adding just over 300 square feet to your house. Get ready to spend about $70 per square foot or around $21,000. This is just a minimum as I don't know what types of finish materials you're planning on or what veneer is on the outside of your house.
