my dog wipes his backside on the floor, whether it be carpet or lino or wood, or even over the metal bars where the doors are,, doesnt seem to hurt him though.
what is up with that, luckily he spends all day cleaning his rear-end, so its not messy, and very funny to watch, he drags his body with his two front paws perched on his bottom, with both back legs in the air, but seriosly, what is up with that????

This is not a funny. My Cockapoo had the same problem and this is because his anal gland are swollen and he is constipated. If it is worms, they are easy to fix without a the cost of a vet, try using the worm meds first. If this does not work you can express his anal glands yourself after having a vet show you the correct way. If you are not willing to use gloves and enter his anal canal without fear and being taught by vet, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS. My dog has had this problem since he was a baby and you need to take him to a doctor before he turns toxic from not being able to remove his stools, Never let him lick it up as he is putting the poison back into his body. You need to get a book on Your DOG as they all have different problems and preventative cures so it does not happen. He may have chewed and swallowed something paper, plastic or anything any cannot pass it. Bring him to a doc a.s.a.p. lisa bild Look on the internet for free answers which I believe is under Free information for problems with dogs and list his heritage, type etc... Do not delay as this may be serious and he is showing you his discomfort by dragging his bottom. Look for a vet co. called the Helping Hands as they only charge 20.00 for a visit depending on the problem. They are outstanding and well educated people who love all living things. Much Aloha and best of luck, lisammarie

You should take him to the vet to have him checked for worms.Dragging the hind end across objects is a reaction to an itch he can't scratch. He is probably very uncomfortable ...think of your foot in a shoe with an itch you can't scratch because your driving .He may also have inflamed glands in his rear end that need to be drained...that can also cause the same reaction...also not fun for the dog.

My mom has a pomeranian who does this also. We were told by the vet that alot of smaller breed dogs have a gland in the anus that ocassionally has to be popped. It creates itching when full causing the dog to drag their hineys across the floor in a mad attempt to pop it themselves. When we notice the dog doing it we simply take him to the vet and he pops it by putting his finger up the rear. Sound painful but doesn't seem to hurt him any.

He may either have worms. Or there are some dog with anal glands that need to be released.

Take him to the vet and the will be able to tell you what needs to be done.

Either worms or an annal gland problem common in Staffies best to let a vet handle the latter if you don't know what to do.

It sounds as if he has worms. Dogs only drag their bottoms when this is a problem. Please see a Vet soon and you will need to disinfect your rugs, etc., as worms can be transmitted to humans from dogs. Wash your hands thoroughly each and every time you touch the dog.

Hurray - get him into the Vet!

His anal glands need to be done. Your groomer or vet can do that for you. When a dogs anal glands fill up they can explode. So get it done fast.
It can also be worms tho.
And then some dogs do it to spread their scent. But he wouldnt do it all day if it were for that reason.

He has worms more than likely and they are causing rectal irritation. Or he may be having trouble with his anal glands. Take him to the vet ASAP
