I assume by Witchcraft, you mean Wicca. Wicca was basically started circa 1950 by Gerald Gardner as a way to be tied up and beaten while naked, according to Adian Kelly. It's about ego trips and fantasies of power.

The answer will depend on the person and the branch of witchcraft that they practice. The peaceful kind that you describe sounds like either folk magic or the religion of Wicca. To learn about Wicca from an unbiased site:
http://www.religioustolerance.org/witchcra.htm
There are also many other types of witchcraft that may or may not be peaceful and harmless.
To answer your question, yes, I've had a bad experience with it many years ago. I casted a spell to manipulate the will of another person. The spell worked, but the price that I had to pay physically and emotionally was not worth it. I learned a hard lesson. I wasn't a Wiccan (I'm still not), but if I had been part of a coven they would have warned me about the consequences of my actions. Most Wiccans believe in some type of law of return where you get back what you put forth. They also have a rede (code of ethics) which advises against harming others. The thing is that not all witches follow the specific religion of Wicca. In fact, some witches aren't religious at all.
The pentagram has been a religious symbol in many cultures and has stood for many different things. Did you know that at one time it stood for the five wounds of Christ in Christianity?

oh believe me, you'll get it from the Baptists and any other fundamentalists who have never taken time to educate themselves on the craft.
Then, you'll get some "born again" believers who will tell you they were involved DEEPLY in the craft and that it's just a cover for Satanic worship-- that we actually lure people in with Wicca at first, and THEN .. once someone is DEEP into it, we show them our satanic side.. it's pathetic really.
OR you'll hear of someone who has a friend who had a dealing with a bad witch who conjured up some evil thing blah blah blah..
but, they haven't PERSONALLY had that experience.. sad
The pentagram is an ancient symbol of protection (also of the goddess Venus who was the goddess of LOVE) and has absolutely nothing to do with worshipping a fallen angel of another religion.
As for the "goat's head", you're speaking of Baphomet, which was actually an enigmatic figure first described at the trials of the Templars, a medieval order of Crusader Monks accused of Heresy, witchcraft, and other crimes against the Catholic Church.
The Knights Templar did something to upset the Church so they, along with innocents of that time, were accused of witchcraft.
Hence, the reason why it's associated with the devil and satanism. It's also how witches became associated with Satan... for more info on that look up the Malleus Maleficarum (the witch hammer)
Satanists, as a whole, don't even believe in a real Satan. The majority of them use Satan as a symbol of rebelling against the mind-control of christianity.. they see themselves as free thinkers.
Magic is neither good nor evil. Our concepts are foreign to those who have been instilled with that belief.
If you really want to learn about Witchcraft, study it for yourself and talk to real witches.. not christians who are completely uneducated out of fear of 'dancing with the devil'.
Thank YOU for your tolerance and patience.. and for actually ASKING instead of believing the rumors and lies.

The worst experiences I've ever had with Witchcraft have been with coven in-fighting... which is about the same as family arguments. No curses cast. No magical manipulations. It's true that some of us come across as a bit goofy, because we've learned not to care what people thing--hippies have nothing on a gathering of Wiccans (which, intriguingly, will often include some hippies). But nope--nothing dark or evil.

Nope, never. I admit I have only been prasctising 6 years now, but never had anything bad, only good.
I was raised Baptist in the fifties and sixties, been in the Assembly of God one and a half years, the United Pentecostal church One and a half years and Southern Baptist 6 years and churches of Christ 25 plus years.
Okay I gave you my background in churches so you will know I have experience in many of them and my experience goes back 50 years.
the churches of Christ are a little more level headed in things that pertain to faith and they beleive in the bible alone. Speak where the bible speaks and be silent where the bible is silent. they also research history and church history and make logical opinions based on bible and history. Sometimes we find why the bible is silent on things by studying church history and reading what the writers in 100, 200 and 300 ad beleived and why.
First off in the other churches like Baptists and the Pentecostals, they are very quick to judge witchcraft and condemn it as demonic and evil and you will hear many horror stories in those churches, just like the Ouija board I grew up hearing horror stroies of how if you use the board satan will jump out at you and possess you, and then the movie The Exorcist came out and those stories went wild.
You will hear the same kind of stories about Wicca and Witchcraft and any pagan religion, of how Satan posses people and uses them without their knowledge.
My experience in those churches is that people like attention, and they like to be known as someone with experience and someone to be listened to. Young people especially teenagers are prone to exagerate about their bad experiences with the occult and Ouija boards and will tell you stories of things flying accross the room and how they battled demons and it is all make beleive to get attention and to be listened. to.
I know this because I have sat using the Ouija board when a couple of kids in the room started screaming and telling us the board was flying and they were lieng. I was sitting with the board on my lap and it went no where. But those kids who lied became popular in their church and even got wrote up in the denominational news letter and I have no respect for people who lie to get attention.
The people I know personally who claim bad experience from the occult and the Ouija board are either liers, or mentally unstable.
Now I say the churches of Christ are more down to earth in their approach, which they are, but in that fellowship they do not allow dramatic representations and know that people who have these so called horror stories are either lieing or mentally unstable. They do however condemn witchcraft because the bible does. But if you go to them with a horror story, they may recommend a good doctor to you. They beleive that Jesus took control of the devil and his demons and when he was on earth because there are many scriptures to back that up. They beleive that Satan is bound. The old arguement that there is still murder and crimes and sin does not hold water becasue if you read the New Testement you find that Satan had power to possess people, he did many works of wonder that cannot be done today. A possessed person had supernatural strength and the demon possessecd person could be small and weak, but while possessed could break chains and not even a hundred men could stop them. This does not happen today, even when someone is on PCP and it takes a dozen people to restrain him, they still can be restrained.
Those types of things do not happen today so it is evident to me and those who have stuudied the bible that Satan is bound. If he is loossed for a while like Revelation says, then watch out you will see things like the earth has not seen in 2000 years.
Okay now Witchctraft is not dark and evil, we do worship the God and Goddess equality and some beleive in many gods and some just beleive that the many gods are many aspects of the one God/Goddess. We honor nature if a true Wiccan a person will not travel down the dark path and will live with the harm none principle. We are usually better citizens and neighbors than most average Christians because we do not have a savoiur that will forgive us for everything and therefore we beleive in personal responsibility and we must do good or we wiill recieve the bad back to us threefold.

The Satanists corrupted a lot of symbols such as the upside down pentacle and the upside down cross.
It is the Satanist symbol of the pentacle standing on one point and placing the goat's head inside. It means the the four elements Earth, Air, Fire and Water has dominion over the fifth element (spirit)
The true pentacle stands on two points with one point pointing up. meaning the spirit is more important than the other four elements.
As long as a person follows the ethics of magick; there will be no problem. If someone takes the left hand path of black magick; all kinds of bad things will happen to them.

I have experience with witchcraft every day. I am a pagan.
There is nothing dark, evil or Satanic about witchcraft.
Why would my religion worship the "bad guy" of your religion. That just doesn't make sense.
Do what feels right to you. Don't let other people influence you so much. They usually don't know what they are talking about...
Peace

Some people who claim to know about it on here are full of crap! By the it is spelled WICCAN not WICKEN. You can practice Witchcraft and not be Wiccan, most Wiccans are Witches. It is not scary or dark and evil. It is a very peaceful and life affirming practice. Just like anything there are those who will distort it and give it a bad name, but most of the scary stuff you hear is just a bunch of brainwashed people that only use Hollywood as their source of knowledge.

No it's always been a positive experience. Those symbols are pre Christianity and not satanic the only reason it's associated with satanism is that they use them as well. It would be the same as saying everyone that burnt candles are satanic. Because satanist burn candles.

Most witches believe that whatever you do will come back to you threefold. It is only bad when the witch has bad intent. The demonization in Christianity came from the Catholic Church in the 1300's when they wanted to get rid of nature based pagan beliefs. Often there was an old grandma in the household that would brew herbal remedies in a cauldren for medicine. The Church demonized that and turned the old grandma figure into a snaggly old sorceress that had warts and ate babies.
If you are a protestant, please break away from those horrible ideas. I don't know any witches that try to converse with the Devil, only ones that heal.
