Yes. I bought a refurbished Tivo and its great. That being said, we ensured there was a return policy. Additionally, we didn't invest big dollars. I would caution you on spending too much on a refurbished product (ie. saving a few bucks on a large tv).

It's a never good idea because while some parts will be new, the majority of the parts will be used and possibly near its end of life.
Another reason to not buy a refurbished is because most refurbished product warranties are anywhere from "as is" to 90 days. You will get much better warranties with a new product. If you can buy an extended warranty on a refurbished product, then a refurbished product starts to get to be a better buy.
I would limit your refurbished products under $500. Anything more than $500, you should really buy a brand new product. For example, buy a refurbished mp3 plalyer, but do not buy a refurbished plasma TV.

Yes, I have bought many things over time refurbished, and they work great. It is just a matter of buying it from a reputable place and making sure to have at least a limited warranty with it. Some scam places try to sell them AS-IS with no warranty or gaurantee, so be very careful.
Good places are like Brands Mart and Office Depot.

I sure have, and i have had zero problems, the only thing different of the refurbished, is that its alot of saved money. I got myself a refurbished Xbox and a refurbished monitor. neither of which i had problems, i payed only 100 for my xbox (50 dollar savings) and i payed 150 for my moniter (100 dollar savings)
and i do very much agree with the first guy, saying that anything over 500, get it new. Totally agreed with that.

I got a refurbished home stereo system for my birthday. Cheap family members. It was 3 years ago, and today, it's still working.
It's not a bad deal because the refurbished system has the same warranty as the new item, plus, you get it at a significantly lower price.
If it's possible, buy the extended warranty.

My TV and VCR in college were refurbished. They worked very well for years.
A friend bought a refurbished Palm for me from eBay. It was a piece of crap and the seller never honored the warranty.
When my DirecTV receiver, which I purchased new, stopped working, DirecTV sent me a refurbished one for free. It works perfectly.

"Caveat Emptor" would desire to be conscious yet interior this you're secure via the words spoken between you and the vendor. once you purchase privately you will desire to ask the ideal questions. such as > "is this in finished working order because it somewhat is meant to function" ? if the vendor says "no it has a sprint fault, it somewhat is totally sluggish yet I even have pondered that interior the less expensive" you may not then do something approximately it in case you purchase it and dont like the actuality it somewhat is sluggish, as a results of fact her words to you alter into area of the settlement of sale. in case you're determining to purchase a leather-based jacket from a neighbour - he says it somewhat is leather-based and it seems it somewhat is plastic - then the vendor has misrepresented the object to you and that's illegitimate.you may pursue a declare interior the small claims courtroom. in case you have info showing the coolest state of the object or emails from the vendor asserting it somewhat is in "suited working order" that's the only way you have any authentic risk of having your funds lower back. i could write to the vendor pointing out the object has an inherent fault she would desire to have basic approximately yet offered it to me asserting it somewhat is in finished working order. tell the vendor you're pursuing a declare by the small claims courtroom. inner maximum bargains are all approximately asking questions and getting sparkling solutions then info of the deal. it continues to be an offence to MISREPRESENT the products in a private sale besides as from a retail outlet.
