Country of Origin: France has been officially recognized as the country of origin.
Size: Shoulder height: Height: 35 - 45 cm Weight: 45-70 pounds
Coat: Fine, frizzy, wooly. Permitted colors are grey, brown, apricot, black, and white. A Poodle with a corded coat is rare.
Character: Poodles are sensitive, intelligent, lively, playful, and eager to learn. They bond closely with their family.
Temperament: This breed gets along well with other animals, other dogs, and children. Visitors will be announced, but they are generally friendly toward them.
Care: The amount of grooming necessary for show dogs should be left to a professional and requires a substantial investment of time and money. Poodles that are not intended for show competitions are usually trimmed with the hair left longer on the head, legs, and ears. The Poodle sheds little to no hair and are generally good for allergy sufferers.
Training: The intelligence of a Poodle makes training a fairly simple process. They quickly learn what is expected of them.
Activity: The Giant and Standard Poodle need substantial amounts of exercise. They need long walks as well as outdoor activities such as swimming or playing catch. The Standard Poodle is fond of retrieving, as it has origins as a hunting dog.

Poodles came from Germany. They were used as an all around hunting dog. From hunting bore to retrieving ducks. That is where the crazy hair cut came from. The leave the hair around the joints, to keep them warm. When hunting in the woods they would use a fuller cut living allot of hair to protect the dog from brush.
France is the one that miniaturized them and dress the up. I would put a poodle that i trained against and dog athletically.

Poodle dogs came from the french aristocracy. They (the dogs) were primarily used during hunting trips like a retriever would be used. There is some speculation as to whether or not the German breeders helped to breed such a dog into being. However, such information would best be located at the AKC organization or even UKC in England.
