it really depends on how much you want to spend, how long you want to be there, and what you want to see/buy. i would say at least $2000 per person for a week. it cost us $600 a person to fly from houston to rome, another $500 in lodging for the week, and around $50 a day to eat, but we ate in local places that were not fancy. we ate pizza and gelato for lunch and had a light breakfast. each day it cost anywhere from $50 to $100 for us to go into places or pay for transportation (in our case the fuel for our rental car). on gifts, we probably spent around $250. its always better to save as much as possible so you dont have to really worry about money when you are there. definately explore all your options before going and see where you are flexible. the time of year, where you want to stay and what your expecations are for the trip is going to determine how much money you need.
