When I went to Catholic school they told us that pagans who had never heard of Christ went to purgatory. Now that Catholics have closed down purgatory where did they put the souls? Also can anyone tell me the fate of pre Christian people who were not God's chosen people?

If I am not mistaken, there is no mention in the bible of purgatory or hell. Apparently, they were made up along the way.

To me, the fact that people, among them children, will not go to heaven because there were unfortunate enought to be born in the wrong place or time strongly suggests to me that God does not exist. At least not in the way he is described by many, including the bible.

The Catholic Church DID NOT "close down Purgatory"! Purgatory is, and always will be, an unchangable Dogma of the Church.

Limbo, which was a folk belief in a special place for babies who die before birth, is what was disavowed by the Catholic Church. The Church doesn't know what happens to these babies, but trusts in God's mercy that He will take care of them in some way.

Purgatory is not a catch all for pagans, but a place of purgation for believers in Christ to prepare them for Heaven.

Pre-Christian people who were righteous waited in "Abraham's Bosom" until Christ came to collect them between His death on the Cross and His Ressurection. He then escorted them to Heaven where they are to this day.

My Family/Ancestors were Pagans. For hundreds of years, in Norway Paganism, was all over. Some of the things the Pagans and Old Vikings did were un-believable and sinful in the eyes of the Christians who came to Norway and changed beliefs. I am so Thankful, that Christianity came and helped us to see the Light and to know God. I have wondered about what your question consists of in regards to Catholic beliefs about the pagan babies. God says: Suffer not the Little Children to come onto me, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven. Children are innocent. They are born into sin and still they are protected by God until they reach a certain age. The age to know right from wrong. So I know from all I have been taught that innocent children are with God, if they die young. God Loves us all. When you mention God's Choosen People. it means that the Jewish People are from the tribe of Judah and that is where Jesus belongs too. Jesus was a Jewish person the son of God and that is why God refers to the Jewish people as the Choosen ones. Read about it and it will give you full detail.

This is an awesome site. I love this book, and I think it is a wonderful peice of fiction. ;P

But the 'pagans' referred to the Greek scholars and honourable people who lived good lives, but were not saved since Jesus came after their deaths.

Nobody has a soul, not even babies. Souls are myth.
