There can be several issues here.

Firstly, you have to understand the various versions that are available and what you need for hardware to properly run the version of Vista that you select.

Also, you must understand that not only are there several versions of Vista, but the pricing changes with the versions. It can be quite expensive. From what I have seen, the cheapest version is about $130 for an upgrade to the simplest version. If you want an "upgrade" to the version with all the bells and whistles, be prepared for about $190 price tag and maybe more money to upgrade your pc to make it run properly.

I plan on waiting at least a year before I even consider putting Vista on any of my PC's. XP is just fine and I have no real need to upgrade to Vista as yet. Once it is released later this month, there will be many problems that Beta Testing didn't uncover. I'll wait for those to be fixed before I switch.
