hi, on the recommendation of several people here i bought some of that spray that's supposed to stop cats from scratching up the furniture, and i've been using it all morning. i sprayed mittens and mr. snickers in the face every time they even looked like they were thinking about scratching anything, and it worked pretty good because each time they would run away sneezing. but the spray is running low, and what's worse is they jumped up on top of the refrigerator to get away from me and now they won't come down no matter how much i yell at them!!! what should i do?

I think your supposed to spray the area that you don't want them to scratch not the cat! You can blind the cats with that stuff. Use a water spray bottle to squirt them down from the fridge hit them in the butt not the face. The cats are afraid your going to spray them in the face again.

I have some of the spray you're talking about. It's to spray onto the furniture directly. Never spray an animal with a chemical, it could cause serious damage.
Use a spray bottle of water to catch them "in the act of something" and spray him anywhere BUT the face, with a firm "NO" one time. They'll come down off the fridg. Talk calmly and softly to them. Let them come down in their own time.

Well unfortunately you got a boatload of bad advice from a bunch of morons. Those sprays are just awful! I tried that stuff several years ago on a Christmas tree to keep my kids from climbing it and all it did was keep them from coming into the room where the tree was - and I followed the directions to the letter. In fact, several days later I started getting nasty headaches from the raw stench of that garbage.

A super soaker or a strong spraying water bottle and a loud "NO" works best. Put away the chemicals and save your cats a lot of lost years off their lives.

What the hell is this spray? Use water!! It's cheaper and I've never seen this other spray you're using...god knows what it is. And cats instinctively like to be up on higher planes, that's what they do. Is it a big deal that they are up there?

Furniture scratching: spray them with water, buy appropriate scratching posts and sprinkle them with catnip, or deal with it. I have 12 cats, I don't believe in declawing (if you didn't want an animal to scratch your furniture, you should've got one without feet),and I have one entire loveseat that is THEIRS to mess up. they never use my other couch. Plus, I cut my cats' nails weekly. Try that!

AND, don't yell at them...don't take this wrong, but you really need a cat ownership book. It's obvious you don't have a clue about feline behavior! Good luck.

My cat used to get very restless and would jump up on top of the refrigerator, cabinets, in the rafters, on top of the edges of open closet doors, and all kinds of crazy (and annoying) things.

My cat just needed to spend some time outside to get her crazy energy out. She is a mostly indoor cat but sometimes likes to go outside. I'm not sure how your cats would react to being put outside, so don't try it if you don't think they'll come back.

It sounds to me like they are either restless or adapting to a new environment. Be patient. Sometimes cats just like to explore new things. Try not to scare them, and good luck!

Put the spray away and try whistling at them (It sounds dumb, but it works!). Or leave your house for a while and come back, they should come down. If that doesn't work, go and buy some catnip, cats will do ANYTHING for it.

Well they'll get hungry and jump down and put the food outside and close the door when they go out and find a way to keep them from getting on the fridge while their out

Aww. They are up there cause its a safe and warm place. They will come down on their own. Especially when you leave and its time for food. They will just need some time to begin to trust you, but they will come down.

Just leave them there, they'll come down on their own when they get hungry, etc.

Don't yell at them, that will just frighten them.
