im a cheerleader, and lets say the only way overweight cheerleaders exist is if they can do everything along, or the team is short on backs/bases. You NEED to be able to do an ok toe touch, and a ok herkey. PRACTICE. but my standards for sheerleading are pretty high.. my team won grandchamps against highschool teams (we're middle school)...

of course a cheerleader CAN be fat... the question that needs to be asked here is SHOULD a fat person BE a cheerleader? And for the answer to that question...you should seek out a picture of the famous Boston Red Sox fan who appears at every game with the Red Sox logo painted on his fat, hairy, exposed belly and claims to be the Sox biggest fan...

I've seen fat cheerleaders before. But if I were you I would practise doing toe touches every morning; you need to be flexible.

I have seen overweight cheerleaders before.
There are plenty of cheerleaders out there who cannot flip or touch their toes, skinny or heavy...so don't count yourself out.
Do the best you can, and if there are other skinnier people who don't do as well as you but make the squad, file a complaint with your school.

Hey Danita - Good luck with this goal! IMO cheer-leaders need 2 b fit since theywork so hard. Maybe 1 can do less strenuous things & stay on team. I'm former Hi School Band member so we practiced w/ cheer-leaders. They sure do some hard workouts. If U don't have problem that prevents Keep trying if that is what U want.

well, at my daughter's school, she said there's nothing but slightly chubby cheerleaders. That's because no one wanted to try out becuase the coach was a horrible lady who made everybody burst into tears. So everybody who tried out made it. I don't think it matters if they are fat or thin, dumb or smart, they are doing what they want to do and accomplishing their dreams.

To be honest, it's going to be a problem for you - not your weight, but the fact that you have a bit of trouble touching your toes and doing flips - that's really what they're going to be looking for.
Try yoga if you want to be more flexible - it definitely works. I hope you get a place on the squad, I really do. Good luck!
